The Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition has released the first-ever Bicycle Resource Guide for Los Angeles County. "Designed to debunk the common myths about bicycling in L.A., it provides information on the benefits of cycling and helps cyclists roll out on the road safely," says Bike Coalition member Jen Petersen. "Thought you'd never ride a bike in Los Angeles? This Guide is for you!"
The free thirty-two page Guide is available at bike shops throughout Los Angeles County. It can be downloaded from the Bike Coalition webpage at www.labikecoalition.org. Or call (213) 629-2142.
"The barriers that keep people from bicycling are often more myth than reality, and the benefits like improved health, a cleaner environment, saving on gas, and getting to know you're neighborhood are often underestimated," says LACBC board president Wendell Johnson. "With Bike to Work Day coming up on May 15, we hope this guide will help first-time riders with everything they need to know to have a safe and enjoyable ride."
The Guide answers questions like: How do you plan a route? How do you ride in traffic? How do you put a bike on the bus? How do you avoid flat tires? Where should you park? Can you avoid dirty air? What kind of bike should you ride? How to improve bicycling conditions? And much more!
The Resource Guide will be also distributed to 1,500 riders at the Bike Coalition's Third Annual Los Angeles River Ride on May 18 and to individuals who become members of the Bike Coalition.
